    • Tune Description

      Tough Mudder Tune:

         That name says it all! This tune was built for the bounty hole! This tune was not built to be a trail tune. A lot of time went into research and development to get the calibrations of the engine, transmission and clutch optimized for this type of riding. There was a need to develop this tune keeping in mind those big buggies with Portal Gear Reduction, Internal Gear Reduction, Big Lifts, Big Tires. If you got a straight up mud buggy, big tires and got mud running through your veins this is your tune for rowdy nights or bounty hole domination!

       

       

       

       

       

    • Engine Calibration

         The engine tuning in Tough Mudder is the same as the Rock Crawler. It is designed to maximize your throttle response, low end torque and power. Even though this tune feels like all caution was thrown into the wind I assure you it wasn’t. My first objective in all tuning is to keep reliability and longevity number one. Calibrations done to ignition timing and fuel were maximized for low end torque and the radiator fan on/off temperatures were lowered to help keep it cool.

    • Clutch Calibration

        Clutch calibrations in the Tough Mudder Tune have the strongest engagement and holding power of all the tuning FCP has designed. Take-off clutch engagement is as strong as it gets without stalling taking off with light throttle. It has been designed this way to decrease the slip time the clutches are from the point of being disengaged to fully engaged. This also helps keep the heat down to the friction plates that the clutches are grabbing on. Once they are blued from excessive heat it can cause clutches to chatter and or slip. When you have a lot of gear reduction and big tires a lot of that aggressive engagement gets absorbed, so you won't notice it as much. Also, this is made for soft ground and thick mud which will also mask the aggressive clutch engagement. Shift pressure calibrations increased to be firm in nature but not harsh and when clutches are fully engaged clutch pressure was maximized for max holding power of the clutches. All these calibrations were to help keep clutches cooler and live longer.

    • Transmission Calibrations

         Transmission shifts were made to hold gears longer when in light throttle, to prevent that unwanted shift for buggies that have larger tires and no gear reduction. The harder you are in the throttle the longer it will hold gears and the more aggressive it will downshift if needed.

       

          All FCP tuning comes with reverse shifting in auto mode. This makes it nice having to back out a long trail, in those situations backing up a slick hill or getting out in a mud hole it will shift gears and getting some much-needed wheel spin (Especially in those builds with a lot of gear reduction). Manual mode will give you much more control than factory, it will allow you to upshift earlier and hold the gear you selected. The only time it will down shift is when you come under 15 mph in 6th gear and then it will continue to downshift as you slowdown from there till it reaches first gear. This feature is nice when cruising as it won't downshift when you let off the throttle eliminating engine braking. So, you get full control of your shifts up and down.
